DARLO ACTION
DRAG: DARLINGHURST RESIDENTS ACTION GROUP
FIGHTS OTHER DARLO DEVELOPMENTS
DRAG is a virtual citizens group for residents of Darlinghurst Ridge.
Darlo Ridge comprises the inner-Sydney suburbs of Kings Cross and Darlinghurst. This area was divided by a freeway and the William Street Overpass (site of the former Queens Cross then Kings Cross). However, for planning and heritage purposes an understanding of its common identify and history is essential.

DRAG is committed to Darlo's history of tolerance and diversity.

Its focus is on:

  • Circulating information to residents regarding developments and council and state actions and decisions with a bearing on how we live in the area we value;
  • Lobbying for better heritage protection;
  • Calling for a review of South Sydney Council’s amended LEP and DCP (1998) to better protect the heritage and amenity of the area;
  • Seeking a review the 'extended hours' for construction and operation given to developers for the Sydney Olympics held in 2000 but still not revised;
  • Ensuring Sydney lives up to its promise of being a sustainable and livable City;
  • Protecting public lands including council lands and assets;
  • Maintaining affordable housing (boarding houses, Department of Housing) in Sydneys inner-city for the long-term residents who are being displaced by gentrification;
  • Ensuring adequate support for homeless people who gather together for security and access to inner-city services and protecting the rights of rough-sleepers

DRAG E-GROUP

DRAG members circulate by E-mail notices of developments and register resident observations (pro and con). It will give notice of council planning committee meetings. It saves residents a lot of time and bother chasing up reluctant councils and writing endless letters.
